About Aquila
Aquila is a new kind of engineering company. Created by industry experts, Aquila delivers mission critical engineering to Europe’s nuclear and healthcare industries.
At Aquila we don’t just solve the challenges that face us today, we look to the future. We’ve created a specialist European team to promote nuclear and healthcare industry knowledge for innovation that inspires the next generation of engineers and beyond.
STEM Involvement
Aquila’s STEM program supports the development of skills and learning in the disciplines of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). We work with schools, colleges and other organisations in providing work placements to engage young people who are interested in engineering which increases their abilities and confidence but also making it enjoyable and fun.
Aquila currently offer two work experience placements per year to GCSE and A-Level students in which our students provide glowing feedback about the mentors and the company’s four-day work placement programme. Aquila also offer presentation and tours to student groups and career subject groups on request.
Aquila attend STEM annual events including The Big Bang Fair, the Solent Festival of Engineering and the Engineering and Technology Careers Fair to raise awareness of STEM and careers in Engineering.
Under Graduate Scheme/Year in Industry (YINI)
Aquila’s under graduate scheme offers the opportunity for students to gain professional development and supports their learning during their degree course via a one-year structured placement.
Aquila work with EDT to provide a paid 9-12 month placement for young people before or during their university education. The placement allows the student the opportunity to gain exposure and hands-on experience in a number of engineering disciplines with development nurtured via our mentors, thus helping students reach higher achievements in both their academic and professional future.
Post Graduate Scheme
Aquila’s post graduate scheme offers individuals who have recently left university the opportunity to start their working career within a structured environment which will engage and encourage their passion in engineering. Knowledge and skills will flourish during the scheme with responsibility and commitment being key attributes from the outset but also nurtured via our mentors.
The two-year course provides exposure to various aspects of our business as the first year involves working across multiple functions. The second year is more focused in one of three main areas, commercial, projects or design offering the opportunity to gain further insight and boosts development. The outcome of which will be mature, confident and capable specialist engineers with Aquila also benefiting from self-motivated and engaged employees who will secure the future success of our company.
Aquila Engineering Design and Draughtsperson Apprenticeship Scheme
Aquila offer an advanced, four-year Engineering Design and Draughtsperson Apprenticeship that begins in September with a period of full time training at SETA in Millbrook, Southampton. Apprentices begin a BTEC Engineering Diploma and undertake an introduction into Engineering. After a year at SETA, the Apprentices join Aquila and work towards their HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering on day release whilst being mentored in mechanical design relating to our four company product categories.
