Choose your ship and brave the perilous roads of the Eye-Drive Raceway! Created as part of a suite of games for the prestigious UK gaming charity Special Effect, Eye Drive is a high-speed, eye-controlled 3D sci-fi racer that pits players against a roster of seasoned AI pilots. With a pumping soundtrack and sleek visual design inspired by classic 90s racers, players can navigate treacherous tracks using their eyes, a mouse, a gamepad, a switch interface, a keyboard, or any combination of the above.

The visual style and gameplay take a clear cue from the iconic PS1-era racing titles, blending low-poly sci-fi ships, vibrant track environments, and high-tempo electronic music. This nostalgic aesthetic delivers a sense of retro speed while feeling fresh and accessible to modern audiences. Each race feels fast, kinetic, and satisfying—no matter how you choose to control your ship.
flexible design
To make Eye Drive as accessible as it is exhilarating, we implemented both Classic and Precise control modes. In Classic mode, players can steer between three lanes with simple inputs—ideal for eye gaze or switch users who prefer straightforward navigation. Precise mode, on the other hand, lets players guide the ship freely by tracking an orb that mirrors their gaze or cursor position. Under the hood, we used Dreamteck Splines extensively to build each track, giving us the ability to tweak corners and anchor ships to a smooth racing line quickly and reliably. This approach kept iteration fast and ensured every twist and turn was just the right level of thrilling.
