horrible science
for the BBC
overview
After 10 years of award-winning Horrible Histories, the BBC was ready to bring the Horrible to science! With the fantastically gruesome illustrations of Tony De Saulles as our guiding light, we created 12 fully animated sketches, 29 animated links, 21 title cards, 10 wipes and the animated logo for the brand new show.

casting call
We had a huge cast of characters to create with every sketch having brand new characters in each. This cast list included a chicken, a dog, a mad scientist, a star, a Martian, a sea monster, a Mars rover, a T-Rex, a Pterodactyl, a Plesiosaurus, bacteria, a volcano, an element from the periodic table, a meteor and... well we'll stop there. And what do all these characters have in common? Not a lot! So our rigging team was kept comfortably on their toes to create the digital puppets required for all these weird and wonderful characters.
squeeze out the jokes
The Horrible Science books have jokes practically bursting out of every page, so we made sure the frames of our animations were no different. The backgrounds provided the perfect canvas to pack in extra laughs and give repeat viewers more to discover as they watched along.

We are immensely proud to be joining a corner stone of British children's television at the start of a brand new scientific adventure! Each sketch we created was as delightfully different to the last, giving us a fresh challenge each and every day of the project. Here's to many more years of Horrible hijinks.
